Violante’s has always been more than a market. It is a family name, a neighborhood tradition, and a place where food is treated with the respect it deserves.
Our story began in 1969, when Aniello Violante Sr. opened Violante’s in East Orange, New Jersey. Built on old-world values, honest work, and a deep respect for the craft of butchering, he created more than a butcher shop — he created a place where families could come for quality, trust, and personal service.
Aniello Sr. was the driving force and the heart of the business. His dedication was unmatched. He did not miss a day of work until the day of his passing in June of 2010. That commitment, pride, and love for the business became the foundation that Violante’s still stands on today.
In 1978, Violante’s continued its journey in Bloomfield, where the business grew with the community and strengthened the reputation that began years before. Customers came in for fresh cuts of meat, Italian specialties, and personal service — but they came back because they felt like family.
After his father’s passing, Aniello “Junior” Violante proudly took over the family business and continued carrying forward the same traditions, standards, and values that his father built from the beginning. The name on the sign stayed the same, and so did the promise behind it: quality food, honest service, and pride in every detail.
Through the years, Violante’s became known for the details that separate a true neighborhood market from a warehouse counter. From dry-aged steaks and custom butcher cuts to house-made Italian sausage, prepared foods, deli favorites, and catering, our work has always been rooted in craftsmanship. We believe your family deserves better than boxed meats and rushed service. You deserve fresh, hand-wrapped selections from people who know your name, understand your table, and care about what you bring home.
After a devastating fire in 2021, Violante’s was forced to begin a new chapter. But the heart of the business never changed. That chapter brought us to Nutley, where we proudly continue the family tradition today.
When we purchased our Nutley building, we also gained a very valuable addition to our story: Vitiello’s Bakery, a staple in the Nutley community for generations. Today, we proudly continue that tradition by offering fresh-baked breads, pastries, and cakes made daily by Marc Vitiello. Together, Violante’s and Vitiello’s Bakery have created a true culinary powerhouse under one roof — combining the craft of a neighborhood butcher, the heart of an Italian deli, the comfort of prepared foods, the beauty of catering, and the tradition of a trusted local bakery.
Today, Violante’s is proud to serve Nutley and the surrounding communities with the same values that built our name: quality, family, tradition, and pride in every detail.
